The Problem
How to help people with the extra we have, and it actually go to the individual in need?
Even the average Church budget for Benevolence (giving to individuals in need) in America hovers around 1%.
It’s not only complicated to give to individuals but unless your non-profit actually states that this is the designated purpose, you are not supposed to give direct to individuals. Go figure.
How to give directly to individuals in need? It’s challenging. What about the “what-ifs”....what-if the person spent the donation on drugs, what-if they didn’t really need it, what-if they were in need because they had made poor decisions and they really just needed to suffer a bit to learn their own personal lessons? It is SO much easier just to give to organizations, so you don’t have to deal with the “what-ifs” of individuals.
The other “What-ifs”. What about giving to the organizations and all the “what-ifs” there. What-if they take a big cut out of it to hire more people or give themselves bigger salaries (don’t google what some of the big “non”-profit CEO’s make unless you want to get really discouraged). What-if they go out and buy more buildings, create more overhead, what-if, what-if, what-if.... ugh.
There are a lot of problems with giving to real people in need.
